Beijing China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone attends the 17th Beijing-Tokyo Forum as a member of the Chinese Executive Committee

The Beijing China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone (CJIC) is committed to building itself into “a new carrier of two-way exchanges and cooperation, a new model of innovation and development cooperation, a new cluster of high-end industries, and a new high ground of reform and opening-up in the capital city.” To further promote international innovative industrial cooperation, at the invitation of the organizing committee of the 17th Beijing-Tokyo Forum (“the Forum” for short), CJIC attended the Forum on October 25-26, as a representative of international cooperation demonstration zones.

The Forum provides a communication platform for high-level government-civilian interactions between China and Japan. This forum was held simultaneously in Beijing and Tokyo online and offline with the theme of “China-Japan Relations and Reshaping International Cooperation under Great Changes – Thinking on the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations,” focusing on developing Sino-Japanese relations to meet the requirements of the new era. Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu addressed the Forum via video link. Political leaders, experts, and senior corporate executives from both countries attended the Forum.

Gao Niandong, member of the CPC Daxing District Committee, executive deputy chief of Daxing District of Beijing, and director of the Management Committee of CJIC, attended the Forum’s opening ceremony as a distinguished guest.

Exchanging Views on the Development Prospects of CJIC

CJIC is China’s first international cooperation demonstration zone with “innovation” as its core. Its exhibition during the Forum drew extensive attention from the leaders, experts, entrepreneurs and other guests.

Lou Jiwei, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and former Chinese finance minister, Liu Hongcai, deputy chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and former deputy minister of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Cheng Yonghua, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and former Chinese ambassador to Japan, visited the exhibition and shared their views on CJIC’s development, including industrial integration, policy innovation and business environment. They fully endorsed the achievements and prospects of the demonstration zone and indicated that they would closely follow its development and provide assistance in policy and financial support.

Exploring New Ways to Boost CJIC’s Development

In order to give better play to CJIC’s function as an effective carrier of innovative development, Gao Niandong held talks with leaders of some mainstream media outlets, including Science and Technology Daily and People’s China, on the possibilities and path of cooperation. The media leaders gained an understanding of the vision, planning and progress of CJIC and expressed willingness to actively tap the potential of cooperation. Gao expressed that CJIC will distribute the industrial chain around the innovation chain and enhance its competitiveness in innovative industries, so as to provide “little giant” enterprises (innovative small and medium-sized enterprises that are prominent in niche markets) with broad space for development.

Creating a Favorable Environment for Future Growth

As an important carrier of the capital city’s “two zones” (a national comprehensive demonstration zone for opening up the service industry and a pilot free trade zone) and a major project of the 14th Five-Year Plan, CJIC has attracted positive attention from both China and Japan. At the invitation of the Forum, Liu Qinghua, executive deputy general manager of CJIC’s Platform Company, spoke at the session “Reshaping free trade and revitalizing Asian and world economies.” Liu spoke about the situation of world trade, the history and prospects of Sino-Japanese economic and trade relations, the significance of CJIC’s development in promoting bilateral cooperation in innovation and the way forward. The guests at the session interacted actively and effectively, which enhanced their understanding of CJIC and created a favorable environment for CJIC’s promotion of Sino-Japanese cooperation in innovation.

CJIC’s participation in the Forum is an effective measure to build its brand value, an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation and exchanges, and a major step for promoting international cooperation in innovation. The demonstration zone will seize the opportunities of the Forum and follow the trend of Sino-Japanese cooperation in innovation, technology, market and industrial chains to provide satisfactory services to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises at home and abroad and contribute to promoting economic prosperity in Asia and the world.
