China’s Wild West | Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves

Today we are here at the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, which is a complex of Buddhist cave grottos dating from the 5th to 14th century, and it was one of the four major trading hubs along the Silk Road. Hidden deep within the Mutou Valley of the Flaming Mountains, the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves marked the beginnings of Buddhism in China, and witnessed the earliest development of Buddhist cave art in the country.
