Ambassador Yang said that the ancient Silk Road was not only a trade route for goods, but also a bridge that facilitated people-to-people exchanges and communication between the countries along the route. More importantly, the Silk Road promoted cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between different countries in the world. Today we are ready to join hands with our partners in building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road towards common prosperity.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up, the 15th anniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, and the 5th anniversary of the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The ancient Maritime Silk Road not only helped China and Brunei achieve their glory in history, but also connected the two countries by establishing a profound friendship between the two peoples. The long-lasting friendship has continued to merge with the modern Maritime Silk Road spirit, injecting new impetus into the friendship between the two countries. The exhibition consists of four parts-Bonds of Friendship, Along the Maritime Silk Road, People-to-People Connectivity, Uniqueness and Diversity. Nearly 100 pictures taken by photographers from both countries showcase the beautiful scenery and cultures of both countries and tell moving stories about the traditional friendship and exchanges between the two peoples.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the demonstration and interactive experience of Chinese intangible cultural heritage such as embroidery and porcelain. A 3-meter-long scroll of hand embroidery featuring the national flowers of all the ASEAN member states illustrates their traditional friendship. “Mosque on the Water”, a hand embroidery art work of Bruneian culture, attracts numerous visitors. The ancient pottery and porcelain wares on display have been given a modern touch thanks to the combination of ancient skills and modern innovation. Visitors are captivated by the sophisticated art and handicrafts.

Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin took a close look at the contents of each exhibition area. A cloisonné painting captured his attention. When he scanned the painting with his mobile phone, he saw a video clip of cloisonné production. He believed that the application of this kind of technology will give visitors better interactive experience. He hoped that the two sides will strengthen their cooperation in promoting cultural and creative products.
