In this year’s China International Import Expo, there are 36 companies from Indonesia, most of which are from the food and beverage industry. The exhibits cover palm oil, coffee, bird’s nest, tropical fruits, desserts, jewellery and other Indonesian specialties that are loved by Chinese consumers.

In addition to these 36 Indonesian companies, another 19 companies have made special trips to China to participate in the import expo, observe the Chinese market seeking access opportunities. Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun said he hopes that Indonesian companies will gain a better understanding of China by participating in the Expo. “Of course we hope to increase Indonesia’s exports to China, especially since Indonesia is the guest country of the Expo, I believe this will attract many tourists to visit the Indonesian Pavilion.”

Indonesian Ocean Coordinating Minister Luhut Panjaitan and Commerce Minister Enggartiasto Lukito also attended the Shanghai Expo and visited the Indonesian Pavilion which has worked as a showcase of the country’s specialties. Lukito said that China does indeed become an important trading partner of Indonesia in many industries, but there are still plenty of areas for cooperation between the two countries. Indonesia has carried out large-scale infrastructure construction in the past five years. The infrastructure development has spread throughout Indonesia, not just in Java. These infrastructure projects are led by the government, which promotes the development of logistics and transportation which will eventually lead to the promotion of the Indonesian national economy. Furthermore, many Chinese companies have already made significant investments in Indonesia, covering energy, mining and trade sectors.
