Xi and Duterte Witness Signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Media Cooperation

On the afternoon of May 15, as witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, China International Publishing Group (CIPG) President Zhang Fuhai and Philippines’ Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Marfori Andanar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the field of press and publication at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The signing of the MOU is not only one of the significant outcomes achieved by both countries during the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, but also marks a step forward in implementing an important consensus in promoting the Sino-Philippine relationship and enhancing pragmatic cooperation in various fields reached by the presidents of the two countries in October 2016.

China and the Philippines are neighbors who face each other across a sea. They both attach great importance to media cooperation. According to the MOU, the two sides will carry out cooperation in three key areas, as follows: Personnel exchange. Each will dispatch media organization employees to visit each other’s country for work exchanges. Content sharing. On a regular basis, both sides will select and swap news articles to be published by each other’s news organizations, including newspapers, periodicals and websites. This will provide true, reliable and accurate reports on the development of both countries in politics, economics, society, culture and other fields. Joint publishing. Both sides will join hands to complete the translation, publication and distribution of books recommended by one another.

In early May, at the invitation of China’s State Council Information Office, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar led a media delegation on a tour to China. Their visit was organized by China Report ASEAN of China Report Press, a subsidiary of CIPG.
